The Author's Corner: Reaching Out

How many of us reach out for help when we need it? How many of us can accept a hand from someone? The answer to these two questions can vary from each and every individual on this planet. So, understand that if you say, “I do or I do not,” is the personal choice that you have.
The fact of the matter is when it comes to asking for help, a good amount of us see it as a sign of weakness. To look at this as a weakness is to feel that you are unable to handle the things that come up in your personal and work life. At times we need to put our pride on the back burner and ask for help or accepting the hand when it is offered.
In accepting the help, we are able to grow and learn from the situation that we may be in. Sometimes the help could be to just by taking a step back and see the event in a different way. With that kind of help, stopping to take a closer look at what we are trying to achieve and what is happening could be the right thing. No suggestions from the other person who asks you to explain what you think is because they know you will see the answer yourself. As they say, “Talk it out,” because sometimes when we come to an understanding for the answer.
There is those who try to help even when you do not want it. They give their advice, they normally think they have the answers and try to lead you. These people are the ones who want the glory when you finally get through the problem. The say, “If it was not for me you would be still stuck.” We all know these kinds of people and saying no to them is hard because they will normally put you through a guilt trip just so you will second guess yourself.
When you are ready to ask for help it comes down to who you ask. A trusted friend or spouse or sometimes a prefect stranger works best. As you get the help, no matter what it is that you are trying to do, remember to thank that person.
For reaching out we all know who is there to help us, no matter if it is in our personal life or our place of work. In what has come from society these days, being able to trust someone is a rare thing. The reason is because of the me first attitude from the younger generation. Values have changed and until there is a moment when the need of true understanding, most of us will not know what help looks like.
Take a moment today and look at your list of friends, family and co-workers to see who will help you if you need it.
Stay safe.
