As the sun sets on another day it has been one that has come to the point where you are lost in thought. The past is always on your mind like the mistakes that you made and all the hardships that you have been through. As you think of these moments in your life, your depression worsens.

People have said to move on, even though they are in the same situation as you. To move on means to turn you back on the past as it can not be changed. Most think they can change the past by reliving it over and over again in their minds, however all this does is to create more negative emotions and it feels like there is no way out.

Something to be said is that depression will affect almost one in two people around the world in one way or another. For the person who is suffering from it, all they see is the negative which makes whatever hope they have in their life further away. This can lead to a stay in hospital or worse it could end in suicide.

In my three stays in hospital, I have seen all types of mental illness. Being in the mental ward of the hospital is a very depressing place because you can feel the hopelessness on the ward. A good amount of those who are there because of depression or suicide attempts.

The fact that we woke up today should be a positive thing, yet for most they do not look at it this way. They see it as a negative thing, and it is that way for their own reasons and trying to get someone to change their way of thinking is hard. To change someone’s way of thinking comes down to that person to want to change.

Changing to a positive way of thinking is a very difficult thing to do because depending on how old you are and how ingrained the negative thinking is, most will see it as pointless. The first step in thinking positive thinking is to accept that the past is over and you have this day as a gift because it was not promised to you. The process will take time and hard work because you have to stop the negative thinking, easier said than done.

I know from my own experience that changing how you think is not an easy task to do. The hardest step for me was to take all the negative thought and feeling out of my mind. It was hard as all I knew what negative thinking. It would come to an end when I was in the hospital for the last time in 2010. My depression put me in there because I was ready to give up in all ways.

When we are faced with hardships though out our lives it is easier to see the negative than the positive. Most of us do not give in when we are faced with hardships, we fail to see that we are being taught a lesson that will help us in the future.

As the sun sets, know that if you wake up tomorrow it is a blessing and a positive thing. Depression can be treated, just be willing to get the help.

Stay safe.
