The Author's Corner: Life is a Highway

Life is a highway, such a simple way to describe life. We start on our path at different times in our life. Some start a path when they are younger as they face school’s systems. This is when things really start. From the lessons that are being taught by the teachers and to how you interact with your peers.

Most kids grow up in the same community throughout their life and then go off into the world that is nothing in what they expect. Most will go for further education and others will start in the work force. These decisions will determine what path their lives will take. There is where they will live, who their friend are, and what industry that they choose to work in.

At the ages of twenty-two to twenty-five is the all-important question of where their careers are going to start once they graduate from college or university. Some are already parents by this age which adds to what they need to take care of. The choices that are made will shape their life for the future.

If you jump from job to job, you will create an environment where you may wonder where your next paycheck is coming from. This type of life is not a path to be on as it will also affect your health and could destroy the relationships in your life.

The path you take in your life is up to you. Some take the easy way that everyone else takes. You may not be happy, however, you now where you stand in your career and family life. It is the easy way that you have as you will work five days a week, have weekends off and two weeks for holidays.

Then there is the path less taken. It is harder and you will continue to learn at every turn that you face. When others are off to the lake on the weekends, you are at the kitchen table working on the life that you want. Yes, you have a career, however it is what is paying the bills and giving you what you need to survive. The reason why you are working on your weekends is to give you family and yourself the life that you want. It is also the one that pays off in the end as you are not just a number in societies game. You are working to get your dream of being your own boss and setting your own schedule. It is a lot of work however it is up to you if you want to do it.

Is life a highway? Think about what is and decide if it is where you want to be. I think it is and the path less taken is the express lane.
