Artists, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear that term? It is starving, struggling, poor, crazy or maybe creative? To really understand an artist is to step into their world and realize how they think is greatly different than most people. Most of the artist’s, famous and not famous, think as themselves as the hands of God/the Creator where that energy is working through them.
We are able to see the artist through their work as they are extension of themselves. We wonder where they got the idea from for their work or the masterpiece. There are countless examples throughout history that sticks out from the greats of the past and yet we are left in total amazement. For this case, as an artist myself, I will not mention any one artist because we are all one community.
Our art comes from our soul and a drive to be creative. It is something that is hard to teach because you either have it or not. There are many schools around the world who teach the history of the field and how to be creative. However, there is only about one percent of the students who make a living with it. For the rest of us it is just the shear joy of creating the work in general.
When we look at all the arts from written to visual and not to miss music and others, those who put in the time may get their fifteen minutes of fame. It is that one novel or that perfect picture or song that raises the bar that we set for ourselves.
In time we see that sometimes that groundbreaking need that all artists have to run into the dark corner of creation. In all the fields of the arts there are the addictions that fuel the artist’s ability ranging from drugs, booze, sex, self isolation and some of their best work happens in these times. I do not know why that is, however it happens.
One thing is that once the artist produces their work it is forever in the conscience of society. For authors and musicians, the work is different as it can influence generations to come, both as for new artists and motivational movements. I will give one example here and that is the book 1984, as society has moved forward there are scenes that have shown themselves through society here in 2025.
For me, my reason for my work is to show that people who suffer from mental health problems can achieve their dreams and goals. To raise the awareness towards my cause has only come from my own issues with my mental health problems. Maybe that is where my own creativity come from.
Be kind to artists because their art will live on and so will their name.
Stay safe.
