The Author's Corner: The Future

In what lies ahead of you is either decided by you or you will follow what someone else has told you to do. Your future remains in the goals and dreams that you have. Something about the future is that it is always changing. Tomorrow is not promised so all we have is today to set our goals and dreams for what we hope for.

When we look into our future and what we want to achieve in life is normally influenced by our family, friends and teachers. The negative part is that if you want to do something different there is at times a backlash from those who want you to do something different. Yet when we tell those who have said that we should do something and when we do the same thing to them, they get upset. The fact of the matter is that the only person who should be making any decisions on what your life should be like is you.

This is the time when society needs to change and allow others to think for themselves. Something that will never happen because of the, “We just want what is right for you,” people to become silent and allow the individual themselves to plan their own future.

As the days of your life move from childhood into being an adult, most people are set in their ways heading to a future that they do not want. They follow what others say because they do not want to be alone and even though they are not happy they continue to follow the path of others.

It takes strength to break free from the future that others want for you. Within each and everyone of us there is a dream for the future that we want. Many of us, when choosing happiness over the life others want us to live, we go back to school to follow our dream. However, some of us end up having mental breakdowns and we lose everything that we had.

There have been those who have made their dreams come true and were not told what their future looks like. These are the people who are truly happy in everything that they do.

With the right people in your life who do not tell you what to do, they are the ones who include you in their own futures. These people are our true friends and family members who care about our own happiness.

Yet, your future is up to you, and it is your life to live. If you are not happy where you are in life, the only one you have to blame is you. Remember you are in control of you own life so take the wheel and control your life. That is easier said than done.
